Comment: I have a 5150 with two 5.25" Floppy Drives(one Tandon and one Magnetic Peripherals) with 640K memory and color monitor. When I try to boot it up I get a 1701 error code (hard drive problem) and the system doesn't have a hard drive. All DIP switches have been set properly. The start up disk is inserted in A-drive (the B-drive doesn't seem to be active at all), and it begins to work, but dies after a few seconds, then the Basic screen appears, and any attempt to load DOS through the "system" command fails. Any ideas what my problem could be?

Reply: (edit)I'd first check the CMOS for the correct drive settings (both hard drive and floppy drive settings). Just curious...what are you using a 4.75Mhz computer for? Never mind, I just remembered what my neighbor uses a similarly slow system for. borelli34

Reply: (edit)Skip: Yes, I think you're right, BIOS thinks it has a hard drive, but it doesn't.How do I get into CMOS from Basic to tell it what it has?

Reply: (edit)Borelli34: How do I get into CMOS from Basic? I can't get any kind of DOS prompt. Could it be a controller card failure or a floppy drive failure? Oh, by the way, I collect and repair vintage computers as a hobby. 4.77Mhz is a little slow for today.
