Hi,

I am fixing an old computer for a friend of mine, its a IBM Personal Computer 300GL. Well, I was able to reformat the hard drive, install Windows XP, and get to the Windows XP loading sign, I realized that I everything running fine. But here is where the problem came. I tried to install a Pioneer DVR-A04 to replace one of the drives which was in there (whose laser had burn't out). Well I went and put the new drive in, hooked it up, set it to master and tried it out. I started up the computer when I got really wanted to see if the bios had recognized the drive before I went and loaded windows, so mid boot, I held down the power button and did a long reset (5 second push) (I know, I probably shouldn't have done that). Anway, I turned it back on and as soon as picture came on my monitor it was a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner, and the text A1 in the right. I tried restarting and holding down F1 to load the Bios Setup and see what I could do, but it just repeated the same error code. I've tried it many times, with and without the new drive inside, and I still get the same error code A1.
Im really not sure what it could be, and getting support from IBM's website is a nightmare. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,
Huck Helrich

Not sure what A1 ment, but I managed to fix the problem by taking out the CMOS battery and unplugging it from the wall, leaving it with no power for a few minutes. When I turned it back on, everything was normal.

Thanks,
Huck
