I want to upgrade the processor on my gateway computer. Tech support said they dont support upgrades. Who knows what that really means. What can I do to get this machine from 1.3ghz to around 2.5ghz? Short of buying a new computer =)

I sure don't! Does that mean that they will not upgrade your system, or they won't support you if it's upgraded?

What they mean is that the only things that they will support, hardware or software, are the exact things they sold you. If you upgrade your CPU, then you will void your tech support. They may offer an option for them to do an upgrade, but I doubt it.

Unless you're able to provide the specs on your system...especially the motherboard make/model, it's impossible to say how high you can go with your CPU. You need to find out what CPU's your board supports before going shopping...lol

Hey, isn't the 1.3 a 400mhz FSB CPU? 100mhz base clock quad-pumped? You put 800mhz in your description...

the 800mhz I put on my initial post is the bus speed I believe. Im not sure of the motherboard make, but Ill check it out in a few minutes and repost with the info. As far as Gateway saying they wont support an upgrade I asume it means they will no longer honor my warranty, which expired a few months ago =).

i am pretty sure that you won't have a bus speed of 800 with a motherboard that has a 1.3 ghz...
either 400 or 533
