I was told my Hard drive may be running slow

Specs: Windows XP, 2gb
My computr is running slow. I have been told my HD is running slow. Is this possible?

You can check the mode an IDE hard drive is running in, in Device Manager. If the drive is a SATA type you can actually run a speed test in Device manager.

Look at the listing in Device manager for IDE/ATA ATAPI controllers. Right click on one of the listed controllers and choose properties.

I am not running XP so I can't recall the exact steps from there. IDE drives should be using a DMA mode. SATA drives should have a burst speed over 100MB/sec.

If your system is working normally I doubt this is a problem.

If you have a custom built computer and the motherboard chipset drivers were never installed then do so. Get them from the board makers website.
