I have a Win2000Server at home on a LAN and I want to add a second CPU to it. Currently the Mboard has a slot1 600MHz PentiumIII. I have a slot1 PentiumII 450MHz that I want to add as the 2nd cpu.

Do the cpu's have to both be the exact same --- type(slot1)
-- brand(PentiumIII)
-- speed(600MHz)? Like the present singly CPU currently installed.

or can I have the second CPU be the PentiumII 450MHz?

What do i need to connect the 2nd CPU to the Mboard?

The two CPUs MUST be identical!!! A P3-600 and P2-450 will not work.

You need two P3-600s of the same core and FSB speed. A Katmai-core P3-600 will not work with a Coppermine-core P3-600.

Also, a P3-600 with a 100MHz FSB will not work with a P3-600 that has a 133MHz FSB and vice versa.

I guess readiing the mobo manual is out of the question.

i have had at least 4 PCs with dual slot 1 motherboards. I have only ever used them with matching CPUs, never treid non-matching CPUs. I just assumed they had to be the same
