I want to buy a new video card (agp 8x) I have about $100-$300 To spend on one. I want the best possible card that will fit into this budget. I watch movies, play games, and do 3d modeling all on my computer so it has to be FAST and it has to have great performance. What do you guys/girls recommend for me?

i'm also thinking to get new video card and i was thinking about Radeon 9600XT or Radeon 9700Pro.
9600XT is new videocard that came out with 9800XT and you can get 9600XT for about $200. 9700Pro, you can get it for around or less than $300. I guess 9700pro is better choice to get new one since 9700pro has 256-bit DDR memory interface, and 9600XT only has 128. I would go for 9700Pro.

For that budget, i would recommend the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Only thing is that you would have to go for the 128mb model (which is still good) but the 256mb would set u back probably another 100 or so...

Just check which company makes that chipset within that range...

I use the Gainward Geforce 4 agp 8x 128 mg

Ultra/750-8x xp Golden Sample.

It is a great card and probably about 200 bucks right now.

FS ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP Video Card - $285

If this one sold just look harder on Iternet.
There are lots of 9800Pros for under $300

Something to keep in ming when buying a high-end component is you obligate yourself to get enough enjoyment over the first 6-8 months to justify maybe 40% of its purchase price. Like just to make up an example, if you got a $400 card now it might sell for only $250 in 6 months, whereas a $250 card will drop to $180, and a $150 card will drop to $120. I'm totally making up the numbers here but the point is that as you approach the very top end you start paying 30%-50% more for 10%-15% of performance improvement. So maybe a couple notches down from the top is the way to go, like a 9700pro or non-pro. Maybe it all depends on whether you are the type of person to figure out the cost per square foot of your toilet paper options when you're at walmart.

Thnx alot guys, you were very helpful, johnoh you were great at putting it into perspective. I will look at the second best card so I dont pay for something that will lose so much in value. Thnx guys! Greatly appreciated the advice!
