My sister's computer was making a very high pitched noise all of a sudden while she was on it, and pulled the plug WHILE IT WAS ON so that she wouldn't wake everybody up. The next day she told me that her video wont work. When I started the computer up it said "please check signal cable". I used 4 different videocards and 2 different monitors, and each one says the same problem. I disconnected everything from my computer except the cpu and the ram, and I don't get an POST beeps. I read other websites and other forums, and I have come to the conclusion that the motherboard is fried. Does anybody have other ideas before we have to go buy a new motherboard?
It could also be the CPU. It might have been the CPU fan that was making the noise. It could have quit and fried the CPU. But the only was to troubleshoot is to start swapping. You need a good power supply, motherboard and CPU to get a POST beep. I would start with the power supply because it's easy to swap.
