I need info off my old laptops hd

I had a laptop and it went dead i have the old hd out of it in a usb external hd case but am unable to acces some of the files does any one know how to get this info off.

Based on what you gave me, I assume the drive is detected but some files are not accessable while others are accessable right? Does it give you a message when trying to access those files or can you even see them?
