With msdos you use the FDISK command for that. With XP command prompt I think the command is DISKPART.

open cmd with admin rights
Enter in:
list disk (find your disk)
select disk X
list partition (find your partition)
select partition X
delete partition

Boot off a WinME boot floppy, select option 4 (minimal boot), then run FDISK from the DOS prompt.

I rambled on quite a bit about that in my # 13 here:


The red part describes how to partition with FDISK. To install an OS, after partitioning you need to format the drive. Then you install the OS.

FDISK works exactly the same with 98 and ME so my description there is the same whether you use either.

What size hard drive are you dealing with?
