Sorry for the urgency but I want to make sure I'm not going to be ripped off.

Basicaly, A mate of mine has just upgraded his memory to PC3200 and now has two spare sticks of PC2700 which I want to buy for my other PC. The thing is, he is saying that they are Samsung moduals but looking at the chips on the ram one has Hynix chips on it and the other has Winbond chips on it.

Now I've heard somewhere that certain brands of memory actually use different chips on there memory so this could be Samsung ram with Hynix/Winbond chips on it.

Could someone point me in the right direction.

He flys for spain in 3 hours and I won't see him for 2 weeks so I could do with an answer pretty fast.

Thank you in advance.

GaryM

Don't know if this will confuse the issue but Samsung make RAM chips & as far as I've seen Samsung modules will have Samsung chips on them. Corsair, Kingston etc buy in their chips from companies like Samsung, Winbond etc. - hence you don't know what you're getting with these module builders.

I don't know if Samsung actually makes RAM modules, or just the chips used on them. But I would think if they do make modules, they would use Samsung chips on them.

What johnr said about Corsair & Kingston is correct...they assemble modules using chips from various companies. If you have the opportunity, look thru a stack of Kingston RAM at a store like Circuit City , BestBuy, etc (that is, if they're not locked in a cabinet).
