i have win 98SE want to upgrade to win xp pro

Specs: Windows 7
I have an older computer. I wiped the hard drive and installed win 98 SE now can I download win xp pro from another computer and install it on the older one? How do I do this? Anything specific I need to do?

Yes, you can install xp on it,however the 98 machine will probably be so slow you will want to go back to 98.
And no you cannot just copy your xp installation (OS) over to the second machine.
The hardware on each machine is different.

win2000 would probably be the best bet.

Get a xp live cd first and give it a try.

Many Win98 machines have the horsepower to run XP well enough. Going from 98 to XP was a very popular upgrade back in the day.

But as worldlibrary said, moving an XP installation from one computer to another will most likely result in a blue screen of death due to the different hardware. You can give it a shot though. I have seen WinXP successfully move from one motherboard to another, completely different one. If you decide to try it, make sure to back up any important data. Also keep in mind that if it all works out, Microsoft will probably want you to reactivate Windows.

How about listing the system specs? If it has less than 512MB RAM, XP will run poorly.
