Specs: Windows 7
My As us M 51 TR,laptop was working fine one day & the next it wouldn't boot up or show the screen.I took it into As us service centre & left it for two weeks, but they didn't have time to give me a complete assessment, except to swap the two rams over with new ones(3 gb,& 1gb),and when that made no difference they swapped them back.I took it to two further computer service centres after that, and they said it could be the motherboard gone. The hard drive is still working because I've been able to extract the contents off it onto an external hard drive. The DVD drive also works, although there's no sound. The OS was originally Vista, but I changed it to Windows 7 Ultimate. It has a 320 Gb H/D & 3 GB ram. It'll be 4 years old in July. Thanks for your help.

I think the second diagnosis was correct - the motherboard is faulty and needs to be replaced, an expense that's hardly worth it for a laptop when you factor in the cost of the new motherboard and getting it installed professionally.

Makes more sense to buy a new laptop. I've never owned an Asus laptop but I constantly hear of problems with them.

I bought my wife a Packard Bell laptop 4 years ago and it's never given us any trouble - still it's working flawlessly. If that sounds like a recommendation to buy a Packard Bell, well yes it is.

Thanks Phil.I was hoping to get a less expensive answer than that, like monitor was in sleep mode and needed a certain button pushed.I was just wondering if I could plug in a blue transfer plug from a working laptop to my laptop and bring up contents from my Asus onto the working computer monitor??
