|Windows doesn't support SATA controllers natively, therefore you have to install SATA driver from the motherboard manufacturer.|
Alternatively, buy a DVD drive which uses the old IDE parallel ATA interface if the motherboard has any parallel ATA ports.
As previous poster says, you need to install more RAM. 512MB is barely enough for XP. Without sufficient RAM your hard drive will wear out sooner because Windows is having to use virtual memory data-swapping all the time.
