I have a 386 that says invalid config info

Specs: Windows XP
i have a old 386 that comes up with invalid configuration information run set up
when i run set up there is no hard drive but 49 to try i have tred them all but no luck any one know witch is the right one the only thing on that computer is ms dos 4.1 running autocad

The configuration setting can quite often be found on the hard drive itself. Then you'll have to go into the bios and put in the cylinders, heads, etc manually.

Apparently the battery has died and you have lost the configuration data. If you manually enter the disk CHS data, note that you may lose all data on the drive of it is wrong and you write to the drive.

What is the drive model number and does the bios have a user-definable drive type?
