Why did you flash the BIOS? If you cancelled mid-installation you are lucky the computer is even booting.

When you boot the computer do you see how much RAM is installed?

What is the full model number of your HP?

What BIOS file were you attempting to install?

Maybe this will help. A 32 bit operating system can use 4 gigs of ram at the max, BUT this figure also includes what the system has set aside for video ram as well. So In your 4 g, it looks as if 2.6g is used by the system and the rest set aside for video. I suggest your next system be 64bit, then the 4g limit disappears to a 16exobyte ram limit.

Spilled milk now but for the future:

1. BIOS updates are rarely necessary so always be sure that it is absolutely essential.

2. Even with the correct update and without you stopping a BIOS update mid-flight they have been known to fail, rendering the motherboard useless. You have to take very great care when doing this.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I wouldn't normally say this but as you wrecked things by stopping a BIOS update, then maybe doing it again with the correct one from the computer manufacturer might fix this. However THIS WOULD BE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

The amount of RAM didn't change, you still have 4GB, but apparently it's not being reported correctly. You probably should not have attempted the BIOS update in the 1st place & you definitely should NOT have stopped the update once it was started. It would probably be best complete the BIOS update manually.
