i used to have on-board graphics (SiS 650_651_740) and i just got an ATI Radeon 9600 XT. It works great, no system errors or anything. the problem is:
when i had my onboard graphics, whenever i would play games (even 2D online games), it would lag for like 10 sec, then stop, then 10 sec again, then stop, etc! and for some reason after getting the new graphics card, it is still doing it (less then 10 sec though...) i guess the problem wasnt the graphics card. does ANYONE AT ALL know what is making this happen!?

First, read this about 35 posts down this page:

You may just have too much stuff running in the background. 9600XT is a pretty good card.

If it only happens with online gaming, look elsewhere before you blame the video.

did you disable/uninstall the onboard vid card? this can be done through the device manager or sometimes through the bios (bios being the best option) as well as you will have to set up the vid card in the bios so that the mobo knows what to do with it, just making sure you went through that step

This never happens any other time, only during games? How long have you been on your computer for any length of time besides for games doing anything else? Do you have an temp apps on your comp, if so what are your cpu and case temps? If not, get one and see if this is an overheating issue.

This is probably a gimmie, but directX 9?

Well, back up your response with some numbers. What's the wattage & how many amps? If you don't have a minimum of 16 amps on the +12v, I'd still question the PSU...especially now that you've gone from onboard video to a card.

"im almost 100 % sure its not a software issue"

- Really? 100% certain?

- When did you install the SP2 Beta in relation to your problem(s)?

- I assume you checked for spyware, viruses, turned off unnecessary startup programs using MSCONFIG?

this happens almost on everything that uses my graphics card (even website games eg, nick.com)<---that really sucks. I dont always play games...

Yes i use Sandra 2004, my average temp is:

Board Temperature - 31.0*C / 87.8*F
CPU Temparature - 48.0*C / 118.4*F td

I have directx9, but i dont think thats the problem, but if it is, how can i find out if thats the problem?

im sure its not a PSU problem because when i had my on-board graphics, i never had that problem for a long time, but then it started all of the sudden.

This was happening before i even got close to installing SP2 Beta...

Yes, i did chech for spyware, viruses, and i turned off unnecessary startup programs using MSCONFIG.

I have just about every anti-spyware program u can name... and i have 3 anti-viruses running at the same time, all scanning my computer at the same time.

P.S. I always make sure i have all Windows updates, + anti-spyware, virus, etc updates...

ANY HELP!???

Still going through a process of elimination here.

0. Do you have one stick or 2 sticks for that 512MB memory.
1. I suggest you run memtest or something similar to it.
2. Set your pagefile size to "no paging file" apply it, reboot and then set it on "system managed size" and reboot again.

See if that helps.

Btw are these online or offline games?
