The lower speed you write the CD/DVD the longer it will retain the DATA. This is from personal experience and from professional experience as well, where we had problems with factory produced (using writable CDs) installation CD's that became corrupt after a year or so. It is one of the reasons I don't use CD/DVDs anymore as backup media, not saying other media is fail-proof.
Be aware that writable DVD/CD will loose data gradually over time. So use more than one media to backup your data.
