SONY VGN-N11S/W CAN SEE QSI DVD+-RW SDW 085 IN CONTROL PANEL, DEVICE MANAGER, BUT WILL NOT PLAY CDs OR DVDs DESPITE HAVING THE LATTEST FIRMWARE AND DRIVER

Is it new or old. Did it ever work?

WAS WORKING BEFORE MY WIFE GAVE LAPTOP TO A FRIEND AND FTER THAT IT WAS NOT PLAYING ANYMORE. FRIEND CANNOT REMBER WHAT SHE CHANGED AND MY BETTER HALF WAS NOT CLEVER ENOUGH BY GIVING PASSWORD FOR ADMINISTRATOR

Then try a "restore point" to a time when it worked.


Is the keyboard also bad?

thanks for the reply, i have done sytstem restore, the keyboard is fine. when i insert a cd or dvd it tries to run and read the disk but stops and keeps on doing this. i have found out that power dvd was uninstalled and now because i cannot use the dvd player then i cannot install another copy from my original disk

Where did power dvd come from? If OEM then might be time to just nuke it and do a recovery.

I have checked on my device list and i have 2 primary IDE channels with the same driver version
is it not that one is supposed to be secondary
