Nothing to do with ATI nor Nvidia. His card is prolly just too old or just not 3d-capable. Some cheap Geforce4 MX 64MB can run almost everything, I have one myself and haven't got any problems till now. Don't know about one of the low-budget ATI Radeon's though.
