Just got my Labtec mic (little one that sits on PC) connected but am getting huge feedback when I have my speakers on. Tried messing with volume controls...no joy...I have a wireless keyboard/mouse which I have tried changing channel..still no joy
Any ideas ?

"Mute your mic in playback in Windows mixer (volume control)."
When you do that, when you use something program that uses a mic it is usually unmuted automatically in the background, and muted again when you stop using that program.
Set your speaker and mic volumes low when you use the mic, up the mic volume in small steps if it is too low, rather than upping the speaker volume.
Mosy people have more than one program that can control speaker and sometimes mic volume (mixers)- check the levels in all of them - e.g. Winamp, Windows Media Player, etc.
Check the Properties of your mic and/or your mixers to see if mic boost is on - you could try turning it off.

In Windows volume control, go to the Options menu. Here you can choose Properties and then choose playback or recording devices. As long as the mic is on (unmuted) in recording, it will work. The issue arises when the mic is not muted in playback. Then you get horrendous feedback through your speakers. Most people do not require the mic input to be on in the playback section.
