pri master hardisk smart status bad. I understand that my hd is about to fail and I want to back up my files. I cant seem to disable smart in bios the option does not appear on any of the screens. How can I enable my pc to boot up in order to save my files? My computer is a hp pavilion t461
Ususally if SMART flags the disk at boot but it's still servicable there's a key you can press to continue. If it doesn't give you that option perhaps the disk is beyond hope? As you say you should be able to disable SMART in the BIOS if you want to try that. When you say you can't do it, do you mean you can't find the toption or it won't let you change it?
Thanks for the prompt reply. Yes I cant see anything relating to smart enabling or disabling on the bios. I can follow instructions but don't like to tinker too much incase I make it worse. Do you think I can overide another way or should I take it to professionals such as PC world. From what I have read on the forums I will have to have the hard drive changed anyway. The other thing is this all happened after leaving the PC on over night so I am wondering whether it became over heated. I have had the PC for about 8 years and this is the first major problem I have had. I'd be pleased to hear your suggestions Cheers
