Hi,
I posted this on the XP forum on 01/19/05 and as I looked through the lists, I think I should have posted the question here.

I set up my HP 6350CSe ScanJet Scanner a few weeks ago after doing a clean install on XP Pro. The scanner used to scan as soon as I pressed the scan button on the scanner. However, it stopped doing this. If I press the scan button, the window pops up and I have to click the scan option on the pop up window and then it scans. I installed the software that came with the CD and also downloaded the drivers and also the button fix. This doesn't resolve the issue. HP is also stumped and a level 2 tech was going to call me. I haven't heard from them yet. I am curious if anyone else has the same type of scanner or similar issues and if you were able to resolve it. It's not a big deal I guess but I thought I'd try and figure out why it will only scan if I click on the scan option and not when I press the scan button on the scanner. I even tried using XP to scan and didn't have the HP software installed, but the same thing happened. Does anyone think that this may be related to service pack 2?

Thanks,
Veets

Veets,

Had a similar problem with moving a HP Scan Jet from a Win98 SE machine to a new XP machine. The scanner worked fine on the W98 machine, never had a problem outside of it have a very slow TWAIN driver along with a slow USB 1.1 system.

After a wasted call to HP, seems there was a problem with that particular early XP driver, as I remember it failed to locate the USB port or never gave me the choice.

Tried removing the scanner and all drivers several times, got annoyed and D/L'ed the Win2K or WinMe driver set (was a while back, sorry).

Loaded those drivers and it detected the USB port and I had to manually configure the scanner.

I never really did get the front panel buttons to work at all on XP. I understand now that there are new XP drivers from HP which correct this problem. Will wait until I return to this machine to even consider deleting present drivers that work to gain a button feature that HP says they have fixed, which the owner never uses anyway.

That initial setup only lasted a month or so and had to redo it as it stopped working. It might be noted that Adobe Photo Works was installed right before it quit. My hunch with that was the HP software more than the driver. Reinstalled the driver and software and its been fine now for over a year or so. Still very slow on a USB 2.0 port.

HP interface software has always either been a snap to install or a major pain. Not sure why but it goes back to Dot Matrix printers, HP has never been driver friendly at all, in any OP system.

Not sure if this solved your problem, but you might keep trying and post back if you solve the problem so we all can see it.

Cheers
