Hi,

I reformatted because windows kept hanging. After a clean install everything went well until I installed the hp psc 1200 series program suite.

The problems were back:
-Start menu taking 2-3 minutes to become useable after a restart.
-System getting "frozen windows".
-No access, or long load to "My Computer".

I tried uninstalling the software and the problems went away. So then I attempted to bypass the problem by only installing the driver via "add hardware" which seems to work because I can print. Also all the problems are gone now except that it takes 3-5 minutes before I can access "My Computer". This is my current problem.

Because when I finally load the "My Computer" window there is a new printer icon listed below the harddrives that when clicked on says "reinstall printer software", I have a suspicion that the long load time is due to Windows trying to load this icon and not finding the software required....but if I install the hp software the entire computer becomes bogged down.

It's like a paradox, can anyone get me out of it? Can I hack the registry and get it to not load the printer via "My Computer"?

Solved. I emailed HP.

I give HP an A+ for customer service, not so good for software (mainly because of not user customizeable options of what not to install).

Got a detailed response in 10 minutes.

Solution Summary:
Uninstall completely, reinstall software completely; make sure to not have printer plugged in while installing software; then use msconfig to disable all hp startup functions.
