Hi, I'm wondering what kind of generic or non-hp brand psu would work in an HP Pavilion XE783 unit. The tower is Micro-ATX. Does that mean any matx psu will work, because it seems that someone said the hp's were finicky about what they took. thanks for your help!

should take standard power supply but check dimension of ps & compare to standard ps as i have come across 2 compaqs with non-standard ps david
It is possible that HP have their own peculiar motherboard connector in which case a generic PSU will not work. Suggest you pull the old psu out and take it with you for comparison purposes when shopping for a replacement Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach him to fish and his wife will never forgive you.
Hey guys, thanks for your advice. As far as I know, these hps have normal connectors, but there may be some weird fan on the outside of the psu, sticking out a bit. I was wondering if that could be replaced by a traditional psu and my friend told me it worked fine with the Hiro replacement from tigerdirect. but for some reason, the pc would NOT work with a more powerful psu he tried from another desktop. Any clues why? the psu was fine.

check the power cables to motherboard & see if any wires missing david
