First of all please do not type in all caps. That is considered shouting.

You are asking about the settings for your OPTICAL drive. Normally, disk drives refer to the fixed hard drives in the computer.

Your settings are dependent on what programs you use to view/play the particular type of disk. For instance, if you want to use a third party music program instead of Windows Media Player then you need to select the program you wish to use.

Only you know what you want to use. Windows Media Player can play most all formats but you may not want that.

For instance, if you have photos on a CD or DVD you may want to open them in a third party program to edit, manipulate, etc.

If you have files that you are not sure of then the safe selection is to mark " ask every time"

Many times a third party program will want to hijack all file types. You may not want that either. You must read the screens when installing stuff. Camera software is an example.

Does this clarify the process for you or not?

First of all, what type of disk are you inserting? CD or DVD? What is on the disk? If you have a self made disk autostart is not going to work at all.

As I stated above, the settings are dependent on what program you want to use to open a particular file.

I will add that I have been using computers for over 20 years and I don't even bother with those settings. Windows 7 has defaults that will work for most users.

If you want to go disk by disk we can do that but do need to tell me what type of disk including content and what program you think you want to use with it.

Region only affects media like movies. If the drive works when exploring the disk then I don't think the issue is the region setting.

Provide one example of a commercial disk that will not autoplay. Perhaps a program installation disk.

Not sure if that disk should autoplay or not. Go to Control Panel> Autoplay and:

Try setting the software and games listing to "install or run program from your media".

May require a reboot to take affect.

You need to answer my questions if you expect help. Answer #9 above. If you are confused by the question I am asking if the laptop you listed above is the computer with the problem? If not, tell me what on is and include the version of Windows.

From my #1 above "Many times a third party program will want to hijack all file types. You may not want that either. You must read the screens when installing stuff. Camera software is an example".

Sansa Clip is a hardware device. See the link below. If there is software installed by this device it may have changed all the file types to play by that device, even if it isn't actually capable of playing them.

Even if that is the problem, resetting the selections in Control panel should rectify the problem.

Try this.
Open Computer and then insert your Epson Stylus disk. You should see the CD drive icon change to reflect the name of the disk you inserted and you should also see a popup box with choices.

Right now your choice is probably set to "open folder to view files". Change to "install or run from your media". Also check the box above that selection to "Always do this for software and games".

Go to Control panel> system. The first entry there should tell you what version of Windows is running on your laptop.

What types of files are on the Sansa MP3 player? Only music? Do you want that device to continue playing the music files or would you prefer to have Windows Media player, or some other device play them instead?
