You can look inside and see if you have a pci slot available. PCI video cards cost a bit more but if there is no agp slot you have no choice. An agp slot it brown and usually to the top of the slots. Below that should be white slots; those are the pci slots. Your sound card and modem should be there but if you have onboard video you probably have onboard audio also (on motherboard).
You can check the hp site if you need help getting into the case or moving stuff to get to it.
You would have to go in windows and disable the display adapter then shut down and install the new one and hook your monitor to the serial port attached to the new pci card. Reboot and put the installation cd in so windows can find it. You should have a message saying windows has found new hardware and is locating the software for it. If the cdrom is in place and that is where windows chooses to load the driver from you're golden. If not you can run the cd.Good Luck.

Looking at the specs there is not an AGP slot, but you have 3 PCI slots. (2 spare)

Looks like you may have to get a PCI video card

But as mentioned, have a look in the case and see if there is an AGP slot, they may have just not mentioned it on their spec sheet --- but i doubt it.

ok this is the downside of buying a fatory pc built by a money grubbing industry. it is not very upgradeable. this is pretty much the reason why pci cards are still sold, because they know that hp and dell with do this to thier customers. now that i have done ranting:
first putting the card in yourself will prolly void the warrantee, just making sure you know that. second, if you really are serious about gaming, build your own comp, third (the last option) get a decent pci card to last you the year then build. i hear the radeons are better for pci slots, but i don't support radeons so i am not suggesting you get one, i don't want you coming back and complaining that it doesn't work, so it is really your call as far as what u get, however much money you have and are willing to waste, as you will need another upgrade in a couple of months, hope this helps

I am sorry that I forgot to mention that you may need to go into your bios and disable the onboard video. You will have to enter the setup when you are first booting the computer; you may have to hit the F1 F2 or DEL button to do this; you will have to watch the (bios) post. It is F1 on my bf's hp puter. Once in there you will get the main screen; Go to the advanced tab and look for Primary Video Adapter; use the + sign to change the value; (where -/+ is used to change value; some bios use pg up/pg down buttons; the key is on the bottom of the screen) It was ok on my bf's computer to leave the video boot type as onboard.

Did you register the computer? I don't know why you say it is hard to find the specs on your computer but here is a link to get you started:
