Hi, a friend of mine has an HP Pavilion Dv5 Laptop. It's hto Win7 preinstalled. Shen can use all the USB ports flawlessly with USB drives, an epson MFP and other devices but the laptop refuses to recognise an Epson C42 printer she has.
The strange thing is that that same printer works perfectly on my Acer Laptop (Win7 too) and even on hep HP laptop running Ubuntu 11.04 from a USB thumb drive!
I have downloaded different drivers for it (but windows has built in drivers for it) from the Espson website to no avail. All I get is "USB device not recognised". Even after installing the Epson software the printer appears as a printer in word processors but when I click print the status of the printer goes to "error"
In the device manager it appears as an "unknown device" and in Properties Windows reports error 43.
I don't know what else to try. Any ideas? Thanks

Install it in safe mode. See if it prints then.

What drivers are you trying to install. The Epson site only has drivers for WinXP & older listed. You may be able to run the printer in a compatibility mode in Windows 7 if that is available. Otherwise you need to allow Windows 7 to use the drivers it has available and lose some features.

If you have installed other drivers it may help to remove all the installed Epson drivers. Look at the links below.

thanks for your advice but I have tried everything, I think I'll do a clean install and see what happens. Thanks
