hp pavilion m7690y video card upgrade

Specs: Windows XP service PK 3, 2G

I just bought a video card for my hand-me-down HP 061 desk top. I hope I got the right one. I bought this one: ZOTAC GeForce 8400 GS LP 512MB PCI-EXPRESS VIDEO CARD
Frys # 6230550

From what I can tell this model is supposed to have a PCI slot - how can I verify? Will the Direct X part work? hmmm

Is there a skimatic for pc's?

Here's the page on this comp:

Thanks so much!

Below is the motherboard used in your HP system. It has several standard PCI slots & one PCI-e x16 slot. The PCI-e slot is used for graphics card upgrades.

Unfortunately, the 8400GS was a very poor choice. I hope you didn't get it for gaming?

Here's a much better card for roughly the same price (after rebate)...this one IS for gaming:

oh thanks! We haven't opened or installed the new one & I didn't realize there was a graphics card disabled & when I enabled it, he could play the game.

We can return this one & get the one you suggested. Thanks!
