Hi,

I have a year old HP Laserjet 1010 printer. It has worked well so far, but now there appears to be a white, thick vertical line on the printed paper. I mean that if I print text or a picture, a line, like a white shade, runs through the paper, making it look untidy and not clear.

Is this a sign of empty toner cartridge? When I remove the cartridge, shake it a little bit, and then put it back on, it works again, but only for a few prints. Is there no warning system that tells me if the toner is gone?

Anyone got this printer?

Thanks.

At the risk of getting myself banned from the forum. Have you read the manual? (I was tempted to just post "RTFM") but that would be impolite.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

You are correct, you're running out of toner.

Try this for a status page:

Press GO for 5 seconds when the printer is in the ready state. When the Go light turns on, release the Go button.

A manual can be found @ http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00189344/c00189344.pdf
