HP laptop splash screen duration

Hewlett-packard Compaq 8710p notebook

Specs: Windows 7, 4gb
I have HP Compaq 8710p and for a few weeks now I've been experiencing a problem during boot. When HP splash screen shows up it usually "freezes" and stays there for a few mins, but sometimes it's showed for only a few secs so the display duration of HP splash screen is random.. but in most cases too long.

I got Windows 7 Ultimate, my BIOS is up-to-date...

Thanks for any help!

In the BIOS, see if there's an option to disable the splash screen, then you'd be able to see what's causing the problem. There may also be an option (tab key?) on boot to see the boot process as well. It may be the system is having issues checking the memory or drive(s)

I don't have any option in BIOS to disable splash screen. Also, while booting TAB doesn't have any effect to see the boot process. I agree with you, I too think that system is searching for something and can't find out, that's why it takes a while. Is there any other way to see boot process/diagnostics like in old times?
