|For starters: I am running an HP Pavillion dv9000 with Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2). This is the laptop with a 17" monitor and number keypad on the right-hand side.|
I was sitting at the airport happily typing my little fingers off when I got carried away and out of nowhere I was getting numbers on my normal keypad. With some troubleshooting, I figured out two things:
1. The numbers and symbols appearing in place of my letters are those of the number pad, just rearranged on my keybaord
2. They are only present when I have NumLock enganged.
3. I cannot get it to stop.
4. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want it to stop.
Okay, so that was 4 things. Sue me.
I have read through probably over a hundred threads with the same problem as mine, and all of them say the same thing (or some derivation thereof): Press fn+num lock or fn+shift+numlock and you'll be all fixed up. cheers! So, I've tried those, along with shift+f11, ctrl+f11, ctrl+shift+f11, shift+num lock, etc, etc. I have even tried it going from the NumLock engaged and disengaged (the little light was on when I did the sequence, no dice, so I tried when the little light was off, no dice)
I found a thread on this site (http://www.computing.net/answers/hardware/hp-laptop-typing-numbers-instead-of-letters/55730.html) from Rayburn where he and Jav01 have the exact same problem on the exact same machine, no resolution though.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help. Thanks.
