Subject: HP DVD RW in HP Pavilion 6343OS: will be NT 4 wkstn.CPU/Ram: AMDK6/128Mb |
Comment: I recently acquired an HP Pavilion 6343 that I upgraded with some spare PC100 RAM;it booted fine with Win 98 (already present on the hard drive). I then proceeded to acquire an HP 630 DVD RW. I configured (I thought) correctly : jumpered it to master, connected it to the appropriate cable on the second IDE channel, connected the analog audio input, connected the power supply. No dice. During NT workstation setup, it gets to a certain point and states "Setup doesn't recognize any CDROM devices. Setup cannot continue." Etcetera. My question would be (and it's slightly beyond me) : is this a power supply issue? And if so, can it be rectified? Thanks. R.Dennis

Reply: (edit)Make sure the second IDE channel is enabled in the BIOS. Also, I had a problem once with the BIOS on an HP box recognising the Optical drive, which was a CDRW drive. I tried numerous selections in the IDE configuration screen, where normally you set to AUTO. I can't recall what setting actually did the trick, but it wasn't AUTO.
