Subject: HP Deskjet 670C ink problem...OS: Windows 95CCPU/Ram: PII/192MbManufacturer/Model: HP Vectra |
Comment: My mom has a HP Deskjet 670C printer. It has been working well for 8 years. Today we bought a new tri-color cartridge (manufactured in Ireland) and it printed very badly. It didn't print yellow but just a little and red was in wrong places. When it should've printed a straight red line there was just red dots all over the place where the line should've been. Mom took the cartridge back to the shop and got a new one. But it had a problem too. When I tried to print plain bright yellow, it came out as green. The cartridge cleaning test result was also blue, magenta and green. I compared the old and the new cartridge and there was no HP logos in the plastic of the new cartridge and the electric counterparts of the cartridge looked different than the old one. Also, the old cart had clear blue, magenta and yellow lines across the print head, but the new had only a mess of colors. Could it be true that we got two bad cartridges in a row? The guys at the shop told us to reinstall the printer software, but I don't think that'll fix the problem because we tried the old cart again and it gave all the right colors (except that it was quite low on ink). The second new cart was also manufactured in Ireland. The previous carts have been made in Indonesia/Philippines or something like that. Please help soon, I am moving away from my mom's house and I won't be able to help her anymore. :(

Reply: (edit)This is exactly why the manufactures say to only use their genuine ink refills. Sometimes the third party ones work and sometimes they don't. It's quite possible that the ones you got were both bad. I would try a geniune HP manufactured cartridge and see if that works.

I would say that is your problem, because HP (at least on my 720C) has the heads on the cartridges. I would send them back asking for a refund or at least a replacement. Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Reply: (edit)Oh, I guess I didn't remember to say that they were genuine HP cartridges (number 49) from our local store. (I once used a refill-kit but they were no good, the print heads were already dried and the ink didn't come out, but that has nothing to do with this...) I guess I'll have to look from another shop then. :(

Reply: (edit)Ok, that's the plan, but the guys at the store didn't seem to believe there could be defective cartridges... they only adviced us to reinstall the software and told us that this has never happened before. :S

Reply: (edit)Hi, Usually the problem you describe is that the cartridges are too old. They probabably got a batch that are all too old. One of the vendors that attends the computer shows here was getting the same problem from his wholesaler. He had to switch to another source. Luck, Jim

Reply: (edit)maybe you got the wrong type of cart, but they are possibly too old, try switching to Best Buy, their carts sell fast so theres a small chance of them being old it is also possible that your printer is old

Reply: (edit)My mom called HP and told about the missing HP logos in the cartridge, and HP answered that they must be illegal copies. Mom got her money back and we found a working, genuine cartridge from another shop. That cartridge worked perfectly from the start and it was made in Puerto Rico.

Reply: (edit)I figured the store would replace them. It doesn't really matter where it's made, if it had the HP logo on it, your chances are they are not replicas. Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
