Specs: xp pro
Compaq Presario SR2002X Desktop PC Device manager says problem with pci device and pci simple communications controller.

I can't get on line and have searched compaq website for a solution. Where do I get the drivers to correct this problem?

Thank you for your reply. When I try to load the Data Fax Soft Modem with Smart CP the result is failure. HP says service pack2 must be installed first and it is. I am at a stand still and not sure where to go next. wmo1490

The modem is on a removable card installed in a mboard slot. If anyone has installed a dfferent modem, the HP software probably won't work with it.

If you DO still have the original modem card, you must install the software the RIGHT WAY.

Unless the instructions for installing a device tell you otherwise.......
You DO NOT install drivers for a device while booting into Windows, if the software for the device has not been installed yet - when Windows detects a generic device or New Hardware while booting, you allow it to search for drivers, it doesn't find any, and it wants you to show it the location of the drivers - CANCEL that, continue on to the desktop, and install the software for the device using the proper installation from a CD or the proper installation file that you downloaded from the web.
Usually you DO NOT install drivers when Found New Hardware pops up, no matter when it pops up !
