Hi,
I have a HP compaq 6710s notebook which has a 965 intel express chipset which includes an GMA x3000 onboard video solution. The laptop came with driver version 6.14.10.4864 and it has really poor performance unless you update to 14.31.1 but i'm unable to!
The thing is... when the old driver was working, it just said the manufacturer wouldnt let me and the driver wasnt verified or something... so i uninstalled the driver and i actually was able to run the setup. then an unknown error occured after extracting and running the setup program for the new driver. I was able to backup the extracted new driver files before the program exits with an error and deletes the temp files.
Now i'm stuck without the old or new driver... just the default windows xp one! please help me to install the newer driver. HP no longer supports my laptop and phone support just doesnt help lol.
I tried locating the files in device manager and installing that way but i still get an error... says access denied towards the end of installing the driver.
"HP no longer supports my laptop", I've found drivers on there site for compaq's manufactured 8 years ago. I would be suprised if it is not still under waranty, let alone supported. "The laptop came with driver version 6.14.10.4864 and it has really poor performance unless you update to 14.31.1". Why buy anything your not happy with, out of the box?
It wasn't the usual not a verified driver message, it was an error saying the driver hadn't been verified by the manufacturer for the hardware or something. The driver u linked me too i had already found and isnt the latest one which i need. As for why get something when ur not happy with it straight up... i would be happy if i could update its drivers... thats like being unable to update xp via automatic updates for security. Intel just released really crap drivers at one stage for the hardware and i'm stuck without any at the moment!
For the onboard intel graphics chipsets (GMA3X00 is an excellent series of integrated graphics chipset BTW) go to intel.com and download the chipset drivers for the 965, and the intel graphics driver for your latop. Do not use out of date HP branded/approved drivers.
The video graphics field is an ever evolving field and you really need to keep up to date with alot of video chipset drivers.
Some cards that are now obsolete work better with older drivers. but the Intel chipsets always work better with the latest drivers.
And if you look at you chipset drivers, I bet they are either from 2000-2001(XP), or 2004(SP2). Update them!
i have a 6710s hp notebook and here is your graphics driver for xp.. i have installed xp dark edition and it works perfectly fine on my notebook ... http://rapidshare.com/files/8266146...
