HP 530 Non-system disk or disk error

Specs: Windows XP

I am having problems with my HP 530 (Windows XP) Laptop. Every time I boot up my laptop it comes up with "Non-system disk or disk error, replace and strike any key when ready".
It first appeared when my laptop fell, it wasn't high and I didn't believe it caused any major damage to the machine. So I waited for the machine to cool down and tried again, this time it worked fine.
The second time it was because I pulled an external hardware without asking to "Safely Remove" it and in turn caused a blue screen to pop up and then my computer crashed. When I turned on my computer the message popped up but my computer returned to normal when I let it cool down.
The third time it appeared is when my computer suddenly crashed, I think it was due to over-heating, and now my computer shows me the message every time I start up my computer even though it has been left for several hours.
Please help

That error normally happens if you have a CD in the CD drive. Could also be a flash drive or memory card, if you have them set as boot devices. Remove all the mentioned media and try booting again.

If you dropped the laptop you may have damaged the hard drive or loosened a connection.
