HP 2610 Service Center software wont install,

Specs: Windows XP, duo core 2
Hi, Hope you can help.

Can't scan because HP Service Center wont install / not installed
WinXP sp3
HP 2610 all in one attached by USB (works), not on network

Historically: aware wouldn't scan with basic D/L software from HP, wasn't a prob, didnt need to scan until now. Printer works otherwise. Now I have to scan, so lets upgrade from basic to full software.
Add/Removed all HP software and deleted HP folder.

D/L Full package from HP, took 30 min on broadband
2009-09-09 , Version:4.7.1, 428.8M
surprised its that old (Apr 2011 now)

Created restore point ... I have no faith ...

Virus, malware and all such software disabled to ensure driver install should happen.
installed full package with all bells and whistles to ensure nothing was missed.
plugged in USB and powered up printer only when requested during install

Printer is listed in "Start / Printers and Faxes"
I can print, copy and prob even fax if I hooked up a phone line.

HP Director
HP Document Viewer
HP Image Zone
Diagnostic tool

All installed and works.

HP Diagnostics says printer working fine

Rebooted computer - I'm no fool - all same.

HP Scan diagnostic utility says:
recognizes 2610
connectivity - good
device manager - good
driver - good
WIA - good
Solution Center - check this message out - "The HP Scan Diagnostic Utility was unable to find components that you need in order to scan with HP software. If you want to scan with HP software, you can re-run the install from the CD, making sure to include HP Solution Center and HP Imaging Device functions. Or, you can download and install the most current Full Feature software from the HP Web site (Recommended)."

Hallo ... thats what I did.

HP Twain Scan - "The Twain component may be corrupted. Without this component, you cannot scan with HP Solution Center software and some other third party applications, but you can scan using Microsoft Paint. If you want to scan with HP software, you can re-run the install from the CD, making sure to include HP Solution Center and HP Imaging Device functions. Or, you can download and install the most current Full Feature software from the HP Web site (Recommended)."

MS Paint sucks, and so does WIN camera scanner wizard, I need the quality and adjustments of HP Solution Software. I am experienced with it at work, and need it at home. BTW I DID SUCCESSFULLY SCAN IN PAINT AND WIN SCAN WIZARD AFTER FULL INSTALL, looks like crap, but the hardware itself works, so this is a software only issue.

Registry issues - None Found, and I DO NOT go into and manually adjust the registry.

HP Scan Flow Mgr - "Some HP software components are missing. This could happen with a driver-only installation or an incomplete installation. Notice its repeating itself?

Digital Imaging Monitor - good
Front Panel - "The HP Scan Diagnostic Utility has detected a problem with the printer Front Panel scan settings. Start HP Solution Center, then choose “Settings” -> “Scan Settings” -> “Scan to… Setup” and add the available scan shortcuts to the printer Front panel list to resolve this problem."

Tried pushing scan button before upgrade and after on 2610 - error (no software), cant do above as I dont have HP Solution Center.
Final Message - "If you are still experiencing scanning issues, you might need to install recent updates to your software or firmware and restart the computer. To check for available updates, click HP Update. For additional assistance, click Help."

To be sure, went to HP updates, and installed all available updates (mostly security or functional issues unrelated to scanning), and rebooted each time, until no more updates avail.

The HP Solution Center that facilitates scanning is not installed.
Doesn't exist in C:/program files/HP
Doesnt exist in Start / programs / HP
Read on HP Forum that Solution Center can not be installed separately, only as part of package, ok, fine.

Uninstalled all HP software via add / remove. Deleted HP folder in programs, and completely reinstalled as above, confirming again malware is off.
Exactly same result.

Any Idea's? Very sorry about length and detail, wanted to make sure you have all needed info.

Wow, what a mess. That HP All in one software can be a headache. I guess if this was me, I'd :

1. Check to make sure your 2610 firmware is up to date.
2. Try to install the AIO software & 2610 on another PC to see if it would work.
3. Try an HP AIO Uninstaller Utility.
4. Check the health of your HDD (see below).
5. Wonder if your XP profile is healthy.
6. Wonder if your MS installer is corrupt.

Usually complete removal/re-installation of the AIO crap software takes care of the issue, if not....something is obviously (duh, I know) hosed.

To check your HDD you can test your HDD with the free manufacturers hard drive utility available from the hard drive manufacturers website to make bootable floppies or CDs to thoroughly test your hard drive surface area, mechanics and electronics:

- Seagate/Maxtor (Maxtor acquired by Seagate): Seatools utility.
- Western Digital: DataLifeguard utility
- Fujitsu: Fujitsu Drive Test (FJDT) utility.
- Hitachi/IBM: Hitachi Drive Fitness (HDFT) utility.
- Samsung: (HUTIL).
- Toshiba (Fujitsu, Samsung or Hitachi utilities may work).
