How to see USB w/ 98 boot disk???

I just bought a USB flash drive and USB external hard drive. Is there a way to access them when I am in DOS while using a windows 98 boot disk?
The reason is that I use Drive Image to apply OS images to new workstations. And when I use a boot disk to push the image, it will only see other IDE drives not USB devices.

I was told that WIN98 will not recognize USB2. I cannot verify that, but I have USB2 on a dual-booted unit running WIN98, and I have tried 6 ways from Sunday to get it to recognize my USB2 ports and no joy.

Hardware based on USB2 may work on USB1.X but at a very big drop in relative speed.Check that USB support is ON in the bios. But even then you are probably right to assume it won't work with the Win 98 operating system. With dos you can use other operating system boot disks without conflicts but within the dos limitations. In a sense this would be a temporary solution. http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win98/Q_20683654.html Good luck.
