I removed hard drive from old computer (with xp) before I gave it away. Now I need to retrieve data for my new Vista (both dell machines) I don't want to put old hard drive in new maching. Any other ways to do this?

You can temporarily connect the old drive to the new machine. No need to install, just connect up the power and data cables.
You may need to take ownership of the files/folders.

it has to be connected somehow to transfer the information. If you don't want to connect it directly inside the new computer, you can put it in an old one then share the entire drive, or get an external casing and connect it as an external drive to the new computer.
