Solved how to restore asus laptop

Specs: Windows 7
My computer crashed and after getting a new hard drive, I can't get the keyboard fully functional. I don't know what the fn key is for, or what it is expected to do. I also want to be able to toggle from a mouse to the touch mouse on the keyboard, because one person uses the mouse, (she is left handed) and I am confused as how to fix it, or what each fn key , f1, f2, etc does. Can you help me. do I have to download something?

What do you mean you can't get the keyboard fully functional? There may be a program you need to install to get extra features on your keyboard.

The function key is used in conjunction with other keys to set certain parameters like volume control, screen brightness, WiFi on or off, etc. Your manual will tell you everything you need to know. There are many Asus model laptops, if you need to download a manual and want help finding it, you will have to post the model.

Whatever, we need the model number of your Asus.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I am guessing you need a driver for "special" functions you are looking for. By default, with a new hard drive and fresh install of windows whatever it would load the generic one size fits all US keyboard layout. If Asus has put in their own "special" options then it should be available from Asus online. Type Asus support in a search, go to asus support, downloads and drivers or similar and see if such a driver exists for your model or click link below.

To err is human but to really screw things up, you need a computer!
