Never dealt with laptops but I know for pc's, you need to open it up and remove the backup battery (about the size of a quarter) for at last 30 seconds. With the pc turned off of course. Then power it back up. (I'm not an excpert nor do I play one on TV)

I take it you still remember the password. If you do when you first turn on the computer you should be prompted to press F1, F2, DEL or something of that nature to enter "Setup" CMOS/BIOS In there there is an option to remove the password. KNowing the make and model though of the laptop would help.

Go into the BIOS section on BOOT and with the password, reverse the setup password procedure for adm or user password.

If your laptop is somewhat newer, you're screwed. You need to contact the manufacturer and hopefully they can give you a generic password.

Laptop security features are very elaborate these days, the passwords are stored in two chips rather than in the BIOS EEPROM only.

Start thinking real hard as to what the password is.

If this is a DELL you may be able to pay someone with a Servicetag number generator to produce a generic password.

Good luck.

Joe
