Specs: Windows XP
my external harddrive suddenly went blank. i could see from the properties that the files are in there but i cant seem to access them. i have tried removing the hidden folder properties but it displays empty.

and it used to have name like Trancend any time i mounted it. but since this incident all i have been seeing as its name is Local Disk F. i dont know what to do. i have very important docements in there and i cannot format it.

please i need your help.

If you can get it out of the case, hook it up directly to your computer if you have a desktop. If it connects by usb, try different ports. You will need an xtra sata cable and a port on your mobo to connect it to the machine. You can also download a linux live cd, burn it and use that to boot, and see if it shows up there.

grasshopper thanks. i have tried with different usb cables,even tried with a different casing on diferent systems and i keep getting the same end product.
i have a virtual machine on my system with linux installed..i tried to mount the hard drive.and it was empty.

is it possible that a virus can screw up a harddisk like there any antivirus that is good enough to repair.
is there recovery software you know that is good enough to get back my data.

I don't know of any virus that would do that, but I'm not a programmer or an expert in that field. I am an expert in cheeseburger eating, and that's where I'm heading right now. it's 98 degrees here and I hear a cold one calling. Good Luck to you.
