how to re-access unreadable hardisk?

Specs: Windows XP, intel pentium dual core/3G RAM
hi ,is there a safer way to re-access an external hard disk that turned RAW instead of NTFS OR FAT?

ONE OF MY UTILITIES JUST MADE AN AUTO CHECK ON HARD DISK (TUNE-UP DISK DOCTOR).

I ABORTED THE PROCESS AFTER THAT I CANT ACCESS MY HARD DISK ANYMORE..HELP PLSSSS..

Not really a safe way. In any case you have to try some application to recover the data. Testdisk or photorec or any number of other programs. I think one is like ariva or some odd name starting with a or alera or something. See also the hard drive companies. Some offer programs too.
