I got new HP pc with 500 GB HD (C:), free HD is 398GB. I tried to partition into two HD, C: for 300GB, other 200GB. I used Vista Disk management, shrink volume at C: to 300GB. But after shrink, I only see unallocated 23GB. Also this cannot format or partition. Then I tried diskpart in CMD, but error message said -- HD don't have 100GB avail. to do primary partition. I don't know what is wrong I did it. I don't know how to partition into two HD ?

Try EASEUS Partition Master 4.0.1. It's totally free & works well. I've used it a couple of times myself & have had no problems. You might also wanna rethink your partitioning strategy:

If the MS tools messed it up I doubt another program would. The MS tools should have worked. I'd suspect some other problem such as memory bad, controller or cables bad or hard drive bad.
Better make a backup now. Might look at clean install.

First of all a 500GB hard drive doesn't really have 500GB. More like 466GB. Then there may be a hidden partition on there for the Vista restore files.
Look at the link for Radified the jam supplied. Your primary is too big.
