how to make use of broken biometric scanner?

ok so i have an old mouse with a biometric fingerprint scanner in it but the cord that connects it to the computer has a broken wire or something... ive tried breaking the connection and re wiring it back together but no luck. so what i want to do is hook the biometric scanner up to my laptop somehow so that i can use it to log in and out, or even use it to access a locked folder or something... i just want to get a use out of it. the information i have on it is listed below, and any help on what i should do to get this hooked up to my laptop would be really appreciated!

brand name: APC
serial number: 3A0514V06307
power consumption: 5V(direct current) 100mA
Category: Biometric Mouse

OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)
brand name: Gateway ID54
HDD space: 285GB

btw, ive searched everywhere and had no luck on finding any drivers to even run the mouse let alone the scanner. I would assume this is because its such an old product that it is obsolete, however if any of you find the drivers or if you get the customer service workers at APC to email them to you then i would love to have them because im sure that they are required to run the scanner with my computer!

Thanks in Advance!

Apparently you will need a Win7 compatible bioapi driver.

ok, would you happen to know where i could get that? and also, the main problem i have is how to hook up the biometric scanner to my laptop, like the physical wiring of it. thats why i posted this under general hardware and not software/drivers! thanks!

You may have to make an old computer that is compatible and install the software to test its operation before trying it on a new system.
