Solved how to know whether or not DVD writer is working

October 6, 2016 at 00:06:43
Specs: Windows xp pro
Sir,
I am having a dvd writer which was stucking and not opening normally by pressing a button, but however i opened it by inserting the pin in the hole of that dvd writer and it opened.
I insert a dvd in that and close it, but it is not displaying the dvd icon in that dvd writer. (eg : (E:).and also displaying a message that "please insert the disk".
So please tell me that, is the dvd writer is working properly or not and please tell me what to do to solve this issue so as to run the dvd writer.

isopropyl achohol is what is usually used, not ethyl alchohol - the stuff in alcholic drinks. Isopropyl alchohol is often referred to as rubbing alchohol... Also you could use methylated spirits (methyl alchohol) used for some cooking/camping stoves.

There are also lens cleaning kits, which consist of a dvd (disk) with soft cleaning pads/bristles on it. There is usually a bottle of cleaning fluid too, amd this is used to moisten the pads...

You simply put the disk into the drive and see it will spin and thus clean the lens assembly. They're not very expensive and I doubt you'll have problems securing one ("legally").

Read these help pages:

If none of that helps then you should install a new optical drive as yours is most likely broken. They don't cost very much and it's the quickest way to find out if your existing one is faulty.

And if installing a new unit isn't what you feel OK with, simply buy a usb connected one; they cost very little these days? Liteon and Samsung have assorted models; some tray loading, some slot loading, some flip top lid/loading.

Check Amazon and your local computer stores for deals too.

Clean the lens with alcohol first. The drive may have skipped a few teeth in the gears. Pull the drive out with your hand. Not with a lot of force but enough. If it opens more and you hear a couple clicks then it should be back in position.

I don't need to be right, but I am never wrong.
