OS: Win XP
CPU/Ram: P4-2.4/512
Model/Manufacturer: Dell
Comment:

My old pc is P3-900 with Win XP ( it is not original os, I install xp by self. )
My new pc is P4-2.4. I still want use Win XP in new pc.

Now I want move old hd into P4-2.4 pc to keep all my files and program and OS.

I know if I repair install os, they still will delete all my files and programs.

How do I can keep old hd os and files in new pc ?
Is there anyway to keep old hd in new pc without delete my files and programs ?

They will not. A repair install keeps all files and settings intact. You will have to d a repair install so the OS can load new system drivers for the new computer.

Consider using ntback. Install xp to new box and then restore.

Any image would work if you fixed the hal.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

That wont work becase all the applications will need to be re-installed as there will be no entries in the registry relating to them. Reapir install eliminates that probelm.

In fact a repair install fixes the HAL (Hardware Absraction Layer).

In that case you didn't do it right. How exactly did you do the test?

Did you install in the existing folder? Did you by any chance do a format?

The main difference between a repair install and a clean install is that a repair install retains the current registry. A clean install destroys the registry and starts again.
