how to install operating system

March 4, 2010 at 10:30:08
Specs: Windows XP
I have a 3 year old HP Pavillion dv 6000. the hard drive crashed, and the cd/dvd player is broken/no longer inside the laptop. I purchased a new hard drive, but now I have no idea how to install the operating system on it. I tried to boot from an external cd rom drive. That didn't work. The laptop doesn't let me boot from it. I attached an external hard drive with a bootable copy of XP on it, but that gives me a meesage that ntldr is missing. I am not sure that buying a new cdrom drive will help, since i'm not sure that it can be installed properly. Does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks,
Alex

The operating system can work only in the system it was installed on. That`s why you get that message.

If the laptop can boot from USB, you can follow the instructions given on the following website:

OR

Good luck and keep us posted !
