Comment: I bought a new heatsink for my P4 chip, but have no idea how to install. No instructions came with it...strange. Anyway, I tried removing the old heatsink but I could not get it off. How do I remove the old one? Also, when i put on the new heatsink, do I apply to the proxy/glue to the P4 chip? Do I cover the entire chip? Sorry for asking this question, but I looked for websites for help and I didn't find any that had a good detailed description of the process. Thanks for the help!

Reply: (edit)Go to www.buildyourowncomputer.info. Instructions there. If that doesn't help you then do a search on Google.com.

Reply: (edit)If the thermal compound has hardened and the heatsink is stuck to the cpu, try moistening the joined area with a little alcohol, let it soak for a few minute and then VERY VERY CAREFULLY AND GENTLY twisting the two parts to separate them. (Remove the cpu/heatsink from the MB first.) When you install the new heatsink, you put a VERY small dab (no more than size of a grain of rice) thermal compound ONLY on the center core of the CPU, and smooth it out to a VERY thin layer with the edge of a credit card.
