I've just transferred a harddisk into a different computer, to act as the boot-disk. I took the trouble to download all the bios updates for the motherboard, but most of them are in the form of ".awd" files, and it doesn't make it clear how to install them. When I double-click on them I just get an error message.

Please see the "Transferring harddisk" post further down, since this gives more detail about the situation I'm in. I thought I should put in a new post, simply because that one's disappearing so far down the list. Wouldn't it be more helpful for threads to be listed in the order of the last response made? That way, they'd be more likely to be responded to if they're still "live". Just a thought...

Hi Max,

Clicking on a file whose function you don't understand is a BAD IDEA.

In this case, windows saved you from yourself.

Likely you will need to boot on a DOS floppy and use the BIOS tool from Award.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

The idea of bumping posts to the top has been explored and rejected as not being suitable for the forum. A less popular post has a greater chance of being missed. The My.Computing.Net feature allows you to keep track of those posts that you have answered as well as those you might be interested in.

I am concerned whether or not you need bios updating.

I feel if it works ok, it is best left alone.

See my comments on message 39271 this forum, regarding moving a master hdd that already has wxp on it.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
